Tracks to Nowhere

Tracks to Nowhere
By Zen Gardner
Oh how broadly we love to think and assume
Never mind the compulsion to always consume
I know, matching words, so just cool your jets
This will get better, or as good as it gets
So go with me now, let’s go for a ride
Let’s touch on the things we would normally hide
Are we going somewhere? Or spinning our wheels
One seems demeaning, well, that’s how it feels
So what if it’s nowhere, the place we traject
A ploy, a red herring, fake props we erect?
On goals and our visions we do solemnly swear
What if life is just being, with nary a care?
“That sure don’t sit well in this driven machine
To get there, just somewhere, our mainstay and mean
My purpose, my life, despite all the strife
It must have some meaning, this thing we call life.”
“Bullshit”, cries the seer, the oracle, and sooth
“You bite into nothing without even a tooth
Your mind is is a liar, a linear fool
While endless you swim in imagining’s pool”
“What ho? Can that be? You’re talking ‘bout me!
On my very existence you happen to pee!
Don’t you know that I am so, yes oh so important!
This is serious, man, as all hell can be!”
“Ah”, says the sooth, with grin ear to ear
“This seems we have touched on some deep shit you fear
Fear of not being the “you” you perceive?
Herein lies the farse you can now disbelieve”
“You say we’re connected, and share everything here
Yet you act and believe we are separate, you hear?”
The subject is frowning, in fact quite perplexed
Confronted and drowning, by his guru he’s vexed
“You are what you’re seeking” Sooth grinningly states
“There’s nothing to learn, there are really no gates
You’ll find out in time, as illusion unwinds
We’ll meet again soon, just give it some time”
—-
Our hero retreats, staring close to his feet
He thinks that it’s all been in vain.
If perhaps that is so, what is there to know?
This is driving him “pletely insane
“Manage your life, all the trouble and strife
And the loves you have wonderfully known
Just know it’s a play, riding edge of a knife
But remember the truth you’ve been shown”
Our hero is startled, “From whence came this voice?
I left him far back on my path!”
“Ah”, says the whisper, deep in his heart
“You’ve found your own voice, at long last!”
